Minutes of the
BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING
New Friendship, MD
May 6, 2000

Directors present: Kevin Brackney, Martin Dally, Deb Gourley, Sherry Carlson, Jane Caulfield
Directors absent: Kim Caulfield
Members present: Sandi Hanson, Kay Kratz

The meeting was called to order at 10:00 am.

NUMBER OF DIRECTORS
As the NAWSA Bylaws provide for a maximum of nine Board members, Sherry Carlson proposed that Sandi Hanson, Myrtle Dow, and Neil Kentner be added to the Board of Directors as they all have a monetary investment in the breeding program and have expressed a desire to be on the board. Directors present agreed to include them for a total of nine directors.

AI ACTIVITY AND SEMEN AVAILABILITY
Deb Gourley distributed a listing of AI and production activity, and provided pedigrees for the three Wensleydale rams imported by Elite Genetics. According to the inventory report compiled by Ms. Gourley, which is only a best-estimate, there appear to be 24 straws of semen remaining for Beacon Banks dancer, and none for either Upper Mill Muscateer or Upper Mill Cracker. Ms. Gourley also reported that the three white rams imported by Zane Smith have all tested RR at Codon 171. It was mentioned that Kim Caulfield has been in contact with Mr. Smith regarding purchasing semen.

Martin Dally reported that he, Sandi Hanson, and Sherry Carlson hope to travel to England this summer to explore the possibility of securing new genetics for the North American breeding program.

LOCATION OF MEMBERSHIP MEETING
Sherry Carlson requested that the board consider holding the annual membership meeting at a different location each year, and proposed that the meeting in 2001 be held at the Black Sheep Gathering in Eugene OR since there are many directors and members in the western U.S. and the Gathering is the largest fiber event on the west coast. Another option would be in Estes Park, CO. Ms. Carlson felt that is it important to have Wensleydale-cross animals on exhibit and/or being shown wherever the Board chooses to have the membership meeting. Both of these events take place in mid to late June and members from the east said that this is a busy time of year as far as other events are concerned. No decision was made.

As the was no further business, the meeting was adjourned 10:30 am.
